Board of Management

Andreas Schell

Andreas Schell has held the position of President of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems business unit, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG and Chairman of the Board of Directors of its subsidiary MTU in Friedrichshafen since 1 January 2017. He is also responsible for the Technology division, Operations and Sales. Born in 1969, Andreas Schell has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Clausthal University of Technology in Germany and an executive MBA from Michigan State University in the United States. He is committed to cutting-edge technology, technical innovation and is passionate about professional management responsibility.
Embracing change in a global business environment that is constantly changing is absolutely essential, in Andreas Schell’s view, if companies wish to remain competitive. He draws on the experience he has gained with complex change and integration processes at international engineering companies, and advocates fast, clear decisions. Pushing high-technology engineering to the limits of what is feasible has been a consistent theme throughout his professional career, having worked for companies in the aerospace and automotive industry in Germany, the UK and the United States.
Andreas Schell comes to Rolls-Royce from United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Aerospace Systems in the United States, where he was Vice President Digital Strategy, having previously held the position of President of the Actuation & Propeller Systems business unit and President of the Electric Systems. Prior to joining UTC Aerospace Systems, he had been Vice President Aerospace Power Systems at Hamilton Sundstrand, a U.S.-based supplier to the aerospace industry.
He had previously been involved with advanced electric systems in the automotive industry, holding the position of Vice President Electrical and Electronics Core Engineering at Chrysler, for example, where he was responsible for developing electric systems for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge. Future technologies had been a key focus at the start of his career: at DaimlerChrysler, he had been responsible for developing hybrid systems, in addition to fuel cell drive systems and advanced vehicle engineering.
A keen endurance athlete, Andreas Schell is a member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
