39 APPRENTICES COMPLETE THEIR VOCATIONAL TRAINING AT ROLLS-ROYCE POWER SYSTEMS

  • Certificates to be presented, officially drawing the apprenticeships in Friedrichshafen and Augsburg to a close
  • Those completing the program have been taken on by the company and have been in their new roles since January
  • Eight industrial mechanics to join a newly formed team in Manufacturing

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – 39 trainees successfully completed their apprenticeships at Rolls-Royce Power Systems at the beginning of the year. 31 of these have been trained in engineering and technical disciplines, and 8 of them in administrative activities.

All finishers have been offered contracts of employment in their respective disciplines. “I am delighted to see these young people laying the foundations for their future careers, and that as their apprenticeships draw to a close we've been able to secure a lot of new talent for the company,” said Marcus A. Wassenberg, CFO and HR Director at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

In all, 35 finishers completed the program in Friedrichshafen. These include 16 industrial mechanics, 4 mechatronics technicians, 8 automation electronics technicians and 1 health and safety specialist, not forgetting the office-based disciplines where 3 industrial business management assistants also gained a supplementary qualification in 'International Business Management & Foreign Languages', and 3 office management assistants also secured an extra qualification as 'Foreign Language Assistants'. At MTU Onsite Energy in Augsburg, 2 industrial management assistants and 2 mechatronics technicians completed their apprenticeships.

“We are proud to have been able to offer jobs to all apprentices,” said Thomas Bittelmeyer, Chairman of the Works Council at Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG. Of the 16 industrial mechanics in Friedrichshafen, 8 are to be deployed in what is known as a Flex Team in Manufacturing. There, they will become versed in the various job roles and rotate regularly between them, familiarizing themselves with the various elements of the workflow and being able to be deployed flexibly.

“Our finishers have mastered their apprenticeships with hard work and enthusiasm,” said Martin Stocker, Head of Apprentice Training, adding, “Those are qualities that will stand them in good stead in the world of work.”
