Agritechnica 2019: Rolls-Royce focuses on low-emission drive systems and improved service

Nov 06, 2019

  • Better performance with fewer emissions
  • New added services for agricultural and construction machinery vehicles

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY

Rolls-Royce will be presenting low-emission drive power solutions and an extended range of services for agriculture and forestry at the agricultural technology trade fair Agritechnica between 11 and 16 November. Its MTU engines have been available with EU Stage V certification since 2018 and have already been shipped to a great number of customers. In addition, MTU Series 1000 to 1500 engines are now available with warranties of up to five years.

“Further design improvements mean we have reduced CO2 emissions while improving torque, performance and fuel consumption. The warranty extension, available immediately, also offers customers long-term protection and boosts the resale value of their vehicles,” explains Michael Kempf, Team Lead, Agriculture Sales at the Power Systems business unit of Rolls-Royce.

Stage V successfully implemented

MTU Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines received their certificates of compliance with EU Stage V emission requirements in March 2018 and have been available as standard production engines since June 2018.

Based on Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle engines, these engines cover a power range of 115 to 480 kW. The new requirements are exceeded thanks to internal engine enhancements and the inclusion of an extra diesel particulate filter as well as an SCR system to reduce NOx emissions. At the same time, the engines' fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 3%, with CO2 emissions also down by around the same amount.

After nearly 110,000 hours of field testing, the first MTU Stage V engines have already been installed in a wide variety of vehicles built by manufacturers such as Claas, Agco Fendt, Same Deutz-Fahr, Grimme and Ponsse.

As well as their EU Stage V approvals, MTU engines are also certified to the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 'Tier 4 final' emissions requirements. This dual certification gives vehicle manufacturers full flexibility when selling into their markets.

Extended warranty

Rolls-Royce offers MTU service products for the entire product life cycle. The MTU ValueCare service portfolio for the Series 1000 to Series 1500 ranges from maintenance, training and warranty through to the complete overhaul of engines.

Effective immediately, customers can now purchase a warranty extension of up to five years on new hardware. Previously, the warranty was valid for two years. The warranty extension gives customers an all-encompassing warranty which covers them up to, and including, engine replacement. This protects the customer and also enhances the vehicle's value.

Rolls-Royce is currently expanding its global customer service capability. An extensive network of authorized distributors and service dealers ensure that ValueCare products and services are available worldwide, and that service partners are on hand 24/7.
